CHAPTER 02 · CREATE
What happens when a woman with a laptop, an AI experiment and a fashion brand meets a cowboy guarding the door? A witty, unexpected story about creativity, technology and the strange business of getting a chance.

CHAPTER 02 · CREATE

Some women collect shoes. I collect research questions. The shoes would probably have been cheaper.

It began innocently enough.

One woman. One laptop. One idea.

And artificial intelligence, which, according to almost everyone on the internet, was about to make my life spectacularly easy.

I should have known better.

At 51, I've learned that whenever something promises to change your life overnight, it's wise to check whether it comes with instructions, a subscription or a man explaining why it can't be done.

Still, I was curious.

Could AI help me turn ideas into designs, images, clothing, videos and research?

Could I maintain creative control while experimenting with all these tools?

And, more importantly...

Could I do it without losing my mind?

Apparently, that last question deserved its own research department.

One Woman, Several Jobs and Absolutely No Time for Lunch

The original idea was simple.

Wear ideas that matter.

Clothing as a medium for creative expression. A made-to-order shop. Digital tools. AI-assisted content.

Simple.

In the same way that deciding to redecorate your living room is simple, until you discover you've accidentally demolished the kitchen.

Before long, I was developing designs, writing product descriptions, creating fashion imagery, experimenting with audiovisual tools and building an online shop.

Somewhere along the way, I also started writing a working paper.

Because apparently, starting a clothing project wasn't quite enough.

I needed to investigate the future of human work, environmental evidence and the distribution of opportunity.

Some people have hobbies. I have hypotheses.

And unlike shoes, hypotheses don't come in matching pairs.

Artificial Intelligence: The Romance Was Brief

Then came the AI tools.

Some were genuinely impressive.

Others were less impressive.

And then there was the Chinese-developed AI tool everyone seemed to be praising as though it had personally invented electricity.

Naturally, I had to try it.

The reviews were glowing.

The expectations were enormous.

My enthusiasm was practically wearing a wedding dress.

And then I used it.

Ayyyy, por favor. WHAT A HORROR.

I stared at the screen.

The screen stared back.

We were clearly not right for each other.

Perhaps it works beautifully for other people.

Perhaps it excels at tasks different from mine.

Perhaps I simply hadn't found the right way to use it.

All entirely possible.

But in my particular creative workflow, the experience was frustrating.

And suddenly, a rather useful question appeared.

Is an AI tool actually useful, or is everybody just having a wonderful time talking about how useful it is?

Because there's a difference.

A rather large one.

Usually involving several hours, an increasingly cold cup of coffee and language unsuitable for an academic journal.

The experience reminded me that a tool's reputation is not the same as its usefulness.

A spectacular demonstration doesn't necessarily tell us what happens when an ordinary person tries to complete an actual task.

And that, I realised, was part of the experiment too.

AI can be brilliant. AI can be frustrating. And sometimes AI needs to be told, very politely, that this relationship is not working.

Lights, Camera, AI... Action!

Despite the technological drama, something tangible was happening.

I was creating.

On 10 October 2026, I published an AI-assisted audiovisual piece across three social networks.

From creation to publication — a screenshot of TATITA’s AI-assisted video shared on social media, exploring fashion, digital identity and creative expression.

A real video.

Out in the world.

Available to be seen, ignored, admired, misunderstood or scrolled past by someone looking for a recipe.

Such is the glamour of digital media.

But the publication mattered.

An idea had become a visual story.

The visual story had become a video.

And the video had finally escaped my laptop.

Would people love it?

Ignore it?

Wonder what on earth I was doing?

All possible.

But for once, I wasn't going to sit there counting every digital movement like a detective investigating a missing diamond necklace.

I had made the video. That was the achievement.

And after everything involved in creating it, I felt a small celebration was justified.

Preferably with cake.

Because sometimes progress isn't a spectacular result.

Sometimes it's simply looking at something you've made and thinking:

Well, darling. That actually exists.

Of course, publishing something doesn't automatically mean people will see it.

And being seen doesn't necessarily mean being understood.

But that was a question for another day.

For now, the video existed.

And I was rather pleased about it.

The Research Behind the Wardrobe

While all this was happening, the experiment was becoming more structured.

I developed a working paper titled:

AI, Media & Circularity: Human Capability, Environmental Footprints and Emerging Professions for the Next Generations.

A rather long title.

Not ideal for a cocktail party.

But useful for explaining why I had suddenly become interested in everything from artificial intelligence to textile production.

The research proposes examining how AI-assisted creative work, digital media and made-to-order production interact with human capability, environmental evidence and the distribution of costs and opportunities.

In other words:

What can people actually do with these tools?

What responsibilities remain human?

What happens to the materials?

And who benefits from the opportunities created?

The working paper also proposes studying different combinations of work, from AI-assisted research and media creation to direct communication, production and documentation.

But this isn't a story about having discovered six new professions.

Nor is it proof that producing clothing on demand automatically solves environmental problems.

Materials still matter.

Energy still matters.

Transport still matters.

And what happens after a garment has been worn matters too.

A beautiful sustainability story is not the same as environmental evidence.

Even if it would look absolutely fabulous in a press release.

So I continued creating.

Testing.

Questioning.

Documenting.

And occasionally wondering whether a normal hobby might have been a more sensible decision.

Then reality introduced a new character.

And Then There Was John Wayne

Just when I thought the greatest challenge was persuading artificial intelligence to cooperate, a human being entered the story.

Let's call him John Wayne.

Not the actor.

Not a literal cowboy.

Our imaginary sheriff of professional opportunities.

Picture the scene.

A dusty street.

A wooden saloon door.

A man in a cowboy hat, leaning against the entrance.

And me, arriving with a laptop, a creative project and a slightly unreasonable amount of optimism.

"Howdy, ma'am. What brings you to town?"

"Artificial intelligence, creative expression, made-to-order fashion and a practice-based research experiment."

Silence.

A tumbleweed rolls past.

"Lady, this is a saloon."

<img src="https://images.podos.io/ovcysg8jrioap2guv2y3pmshqfpwjiggktpf9nt4yzk7pfsd.png.png?w=1140&project=tatita-426070&v=2" alt="AI-assisted visual experiment — a fictional cowboy at the door, wearing TATITA’s “CREATE IN QUIET STRENGTH” T-shirt. The entire problem of interdisciplinary innovation, explained by a cowboy.

Of course, the Western exists entirely in my imagination.

The real event was a professional interaction.

But it made me think.

I had spent all this time exploring what one person could create with accessible technology.

Designs.

Images.

A shop.

A video.

A working paper.

And yet there was something AI couldn't create on my behalf.

Another person's willingness to consider an opportunity.

Now, nobody is obliged to accept a proposal.

A rejection doesn't automatically mean something unfair has happened.

And one professional exchange cannot explain how an entire industry works.

But sometimes an experience introduces a question you hadn't expected.

Who gets through the door?

Who decides?

Are the criteria visible?

And how much does it cost to keep knocking?

I had started the day thinking about artificial intelligence.

By the end of it, I was thinking about cowboys.

Apparently, technological progress has not entirely eliminated the Wild West.

CREATE IN QUIET STRENGTH

And here's the detail I particularly love.

In my imaginary Western, John Wayne is standing at the door wearing a TATITA shirt.

Not just any shirt.

CREATE IN QUIET STRENGTH.

White body.

Black sleeves.

Black and red lettering.

A very serious message for a very serious cowboy.

The irony is almost too good.

A man dressed in quiet strength who has accidentally inspired an entire chapter of questions.

He wore quiet strength. I was asking a question.

Because that is what this experiment is about.

Not persuading everyone to love an idea.

Not demanding that every door open.

But understanding what happens when someone creates something and tries to bring it into the world.

And perhaps discovering that the most interesting part of creation begins when the work encounters other people.

The Twenty-Year-Old Question

And then the joke stopped being quite so funny.

Because I'm 51.

I've lived long enough to know that one disappointing response doesn't define the value of an idea.

I can raise an eyebrow.

Make a coffee.

Invent an imaginary cowboy.

And continue.

But what about someone who's 20?

Someone with a good idea.

A laptop.

A little courage.

Very little money.

And no established network.

Someone who has spent weeks learning new tools, building something and finding the confidence to show it to the world.

Someone who has finally begun to believe:

Maybe I can do this.

And then comes the next challenge.

Getting through the door.

What if the rules aren't clear?

What if opportunities depend on contacts that person hasn't had time to build?

What if trying again costs money they don't have?

What if repeated disappointment begins to feel like a judgment on their ability?

Not every closed door is evidence of injustice.

But not everyone has the same resources to keep knocking.

And suddenly, the question became much more serious than one disappointing exchange.

If we're giving the next generation the tools to create, are we also giving them a fair chance to participate?

Because telling young people that technology has democratised creativity is one thing.

Understanding whether it has democratised opportunity is quite another.

Dear John Wayne, Thank You

So, John Wayne, wherever you are in this imaginary Western...

Thank you.

Not because one exchange proved anything about the world.

Not because I know what you were thinking.

And certainly not because I intend to spend the rest of my life standing outside your saloon.

But because the experience made me ask a better question.

I began TATITA EXPERIMENT wondering what accessible technology could help one person create.

Now I'm wondering what happens when that new creative capacity encounters the old mechanisms of access.

The technology may be new.

The human questions are not.

Power.

Opportunity.

Recognition.

Fairness.

And the ability to keep trying.

Perhaps the experiment was never going to be only about clothes.

Or AI.

Or even circular production.

Perhaps it was also going to be about what happens when the ability to create expands faster than the opportunities available to people.

And if that's the case, our imaginary cowboy has made an unexpectedly valuable contribution.

Sometimes the person who closes a door gives you the best reason to investigate how doors work.

Not bad for a day's research.

And quite a lot to get out of one cowboy.

Follow the Research Thread

TATITA is an ongoing, independent, practice-based experiment.

The creative work has produced designs, an online shop, AI-assisted imagery, audiovisual content and a developing research framework.

There are still many unanswered questions.

About technology.

About human work.

About environmental responsibility.

And about the opportunities available to people who are just beginning.

The experiment will continue to document experiences, distinguish observations from assumptions and explore what happens next.

Some tools will surprise me.

Some will frustrate me.

Some ideas will develop.

Some conversations will lead somewhere.

Others won't.

The process is iterative. The results are not predetermined.

Create. Connect. Exchange. Circular. Learn.

Same question. Different contexts. More connections.

I started with a laptop and an idea.

I ended up with a video, a working paper, a few technological disappointments and a metaphorical cowboy blocking a door.

Could have been worse.

I could have bought another pair of shoes.

But I couldn't help wondering...

AI can expand the capacity to create. Who gets the opportunity to connect?

And more importantly:

If the future belongs to those who dare to create, why are we still letting cowboys decide who gets into town?

Next: CHAPTER 03 · CONNECT

Be Part of the Experiment

TATITA is an ongoing experiment.

Explore the collection, wear an idea that matters, or join the conversation.

Wear ideas that matter.

✨ Follow essence. ✨

EXPLORE THE COLLECTION → https://tatitashop.com

JOIN THE CONVERSATION → https://www.linkedin.com/in/karinaroade

A fashion experiment meets AI frustrations, a new video and an unexpected cowboy.
